What the link carries

Only the number. The plugin does not add a message to an SMS link, because phones disagree about how the text of such a link is written, and a link that works on one phone and not on another is worse than a link that opens a blank message. The visitor types what they want to say.

Build the link and see what the plugin saves

Pick a channel, paste a number, a name or an address, and see exactly what Beckonbird would save and which link it would draw. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Phones only

SMS starts as Phones only, like Phone. A computer has no messages app to hand the link to in most cases, so the line is left out there. You can change that for the channel in the Shows on column if you know your visitors have a way to use it.

When SMS is the right choice

For people who do not have an app you support, who dislike calling, or who just want a note you can answer later. It is also the only channel in the list that needs nothing installed beyond the phone itself. Costs depend on the visitor’s plan, which is something to remember before making it the only line.

Setting it up with the others

A common set is WhatsApp for chat, Phone for calls and SMS for people who want neither. They go in the same menu, in the order you give them. A call button for phones only shows the other side of the same setting.
